Are Silver-Laced Wyandottes a slow-developing breed?
Popcorn and Piccata are obviously healthy and active -- even pushing around their larger sisters at times -- but they were quite small compared to the Blue Australorps from the beginning and were overtaken in growth by the California White by the time they were a month old. They were also the last chicks to feather out.
In preparation for building facilities for a larger flock and planning next spring's chick orders I'm trying to sort out what characteristics besides "This is what the store has in stock from my list of possible breeds" I should be looking at.
Of course hatchery descriptions make all chickens seem wonderful, but if I know which breeds grow faster or slower I could get them in separate orders.
