Are some chickens just mean?

This is good to know. It makes a little sense too as I dote on my JG and my husband adores the BR. Mabel, the Delaware, doesn't get the most attention. I'll try to give her more attention and see if she improves. My son would probably be upset if one of the girls left. He's five and he already says goodbye to guide dogs. He keeps saying "we aren't going to eat our pet chickens right?" Aww.

Sounds like a typical Delaware looking for attention. I have 1 that is like that as far as drawing blood with her insistence. The other one just plainly jumps into you lap or on you and demands to be held by being a nuisance. They are very friendly and do not like being left out and not the favorite. I only have 2 of them and will not have more than that at one time for sure. Until she becomes number 1...expect to be bitten until you give her what she wants. I doubt she is a meanie...she is just demanding your attention.

Just give in now and make it easier in yourself...LOL. they really are annoyingly sweet.

I have just a few delaware hens but they were the sweetest things when they were young but they do get seem to get an attitude as the get older. They are a glutten for attention and will let you know it. I do have a delaware rooster "pretty boy". He is the kindest rooster I have ever owned. He is very protective and he is a sky watcher and lets out a sqwauk and all the hens will run for cover when a large bird flys over!
