Are the booted bantans and the d'uccles two seperate breeds?

I have one hen that was sold to me as a mille fleur d'uccles. She has no beard or muffs. I just thought she was a poor quality, but other than that, she looks pretty good.

I have recently learned of the booted bantams breed? The porcelain booteds look just like a mille fleur d'uccles, but they have no beards or muffs.

I did some searching, and the sites I found with any info say 'they are the same as d'uccles, but have no beards or muffs'.

So are they the same, or different breeds? If she is not a d'uccles, I would rather not keep her in my breeding program!

I'm sorry, I don't have a pic right now, but will get one as soon as it is warm enough to stay outside for more than 5 minutes!

hey Shelley, yes they are a seperate breed and very rare...some hatchery claim to have both but they usually cross the two....but they should be kept seperated. The booted bantams have absolutely no feathers between the wattles and the wattles and earlobes are of a normal size..I have both D`Uccles and Booted Bantams..in booted I have both porcelean and Millie and I have a pair of whites coming....here is a pic of my Millies

Thanks Jane! I was posting info on the gosling order, so this reply had kind of gotten buried!

cthrash1 has an encyclopedia of chickens, and it says that this coloring in booteds is called porcelain. It looks like mille fleur to me, but that's what it says!

I'll have to check her tomorrow and see if she has any feathers between her wattles (you mean like under her chin right?).

So the d'uccles have larger earlobes and wattles? Do you have any pics of that?

Oh, and the person I got her from had her with a d'uccles rooster. That's where she is now also.

Here in the US it is Millie Fluer.....I also have the book you are speaking of and it was written and publish in Europe.....the have different names for the colors over there...they call creme light brown (as in my Dutch) yellow partridge.....go figure. That book has some really beautiful photos in it..the Booted bantams are just gorgeous. I will include some photos of my D`Uccles and you can definately see a difference in the two breeds..the standards are different. I am the state rep for the National D`Uccle club and tommorrow I will send you a link to their website so you cna see the standards of all the breeds, varieties and colors......The Millie Cockerel is young and his beard/muffs are not completely developed.....but you can judge from the other photos and compare them to the others in the former post.....Oh and by the way...the Booted bantams have the regular size wattles and earlobes..you should not be able to see the earlobes and wattles on the D`Uccles

Maybe Jane will know where you can get you a rooster for her if you plan on keeping her they are very hard to find!

Oh, that makes sense. We americans always have to do things differently!

I wish you had pics of a front view, so I can see what you mean by the beard feathers! So it should just be skin in the booteds between the wattles? I noticed that you can't really see the wattles or earlobes in the d'uccles because of the beards and muffs!

On my hen, I noticed that she didn't have muffs, and I didn't see a beard, but I didn't examine her too closely, as I didn't know what to look for. I'll have to check her over tomorrow, as I know it will bug me to death! If it wasn't so late, I'd be out there now looking at her!
