I have these two hens that were given to me as Black Australorps- they just seem to “fluffy” to me. I feel like they are actually Black Orpingtons. Anyone have an idea?

They're not hatchery type Australorps that's for certain. Any background info on them? Any clues on if they could be traced back to the original breeder?
^I agree with this. Australorps were derived from Black Orpingtons so that makes it even more confusing.

I got this one from a breeder - she weighs in at around 8.8 to 9 pounds.

My older BA's do tend to weigh a bit more than 7.5 lbs, but not much over that. Orpingtons, on the other hand, do weigh a good bit more. Because of the eyes, and slate gray legs, I agree that they're BA's OR possibly a mix of Orpington, and BA.

What country are you located in? Sometimes the breed's standards vary by country (English vs American Orpington standards vs American "hatchery" Orpingtons. If you're in the US, I'm more inclined to say they're Orpingtons. I have some young black ones myself and yours look more like them than Australorps in my opinion
