Are these cool NestBoxes or what??? :) :)

I recently got 5 free hens from Craigslist.com. Once we got there, the guy was so nice that he gave us a metal 10 hole nestbox. It was loose so we had to reinforce it. Here are a couple of pics. I priced these and I think they are about $70 and more.

It had one of the arms for the boards on the front but we decided to make some out of angle aluminum. We just put it in tonight.


*****My ? is this--Are the nests too small? I have all large layers except for one. I am not sure on the exact size but I know the floor of each nest is 11'' by 13''. It is slanted so they cant roost up there.

I just went out and saw one hen go in the nestbox like she was going to lay an egg or something? I guess they arent too small afterall!!!

Back in the 1940's my grandfather raised chickens for eggs and meat for the local commercial market. These are identical to the nest boxes he had in the henhouse. I grabbed a couple before the henhouse fell in in the 80's. They work very well.
