Last year I got a couple young yellow golden pheasants. They should be around 8 months old now and I always throught the darker one was a female (top pic) and the lighter a male but now I see some yellow coming through on the back and neck of both of them. This is the first time I have ever owned them and there is limited information available on them. Can anyone help me out? The lighter coloured one is hard to get a picture of. The light one roosts at night and the dark one sleeps on the ground if that helps. I am not sure if I was ripped off an may have 2 different mutations.

Looks like two males to me. It would be nice to see another picture of the darker male, but it looks like they might be two slightly different mutations. I am sure others can give more useful information.

Definetly 2 males. What with the one on the left? His face looks messed up or is that coloring? If so,he may be a salmon golden or some other mixed breed.

The one on the left is the same as the one on the top and it is colouring on the face. I drove 3 hrs to get those birds! Will they end up killing each other or is that only with a hen? They have hissed and now I have 2 pigeons in there

I dont know what to do now, I do not want to get a female until I know what I even have!

The 2 males will live together fine as long as there are no hens around. The hissing is their breeding ritual.By the looks of the tail on the 1st pic,he is definetly mixed.

Thanks Tony. When I went out tonight one had blood on its head but after watching from the windor I do not think it was from fighting. The one pigeon flies around a lot and I think it startled him into the wire at the start. You are always so knowledgable, how long have you raised pheasant? I will post pics when they start to colour more. I want to be on the board more but between work and family health it is not easy.

I have been raising pheasants for over 30 years now and I to am always learning something new about them.Where did you get these birds from?I know Khrissy Bush,Harry Hardy,Pat Penner and Ed Dekeyser have good birds. You need to buy from a reputable breeder to get good quality birds. Are these the only pheasants you have?

These are the only birds I have, first I got 3 from an auction and a raccoon killed 2 before then pen was built. So I got 2 more from a Popular member of another board, I saw birds that I thought were the parents but from what you say that is doubtful. I didn't know enough when I got them and I even mentioned that I thought they were males and he corrected me. I had only seen my 3 and ones on the internet before that. I gave 2 to my friend thinking I had kept a male and female but it seems they were all males. Now I can't get rid of one until I at least know what type we are even looking at. It is tough learning and I really appreciate your help. I wish people were just honest.
