I have three crazy "buff Laced Polish" chicks that I'm beginning to wonder if they're actually buff or laced. They are white with cute puff balls on their heads with some occasional black spots on either their beaks or backs. So sign of buff. What do you think? Are they buff or laced - definately poilish?

And since we're on the subject, when can you tell what gender they are? They all look the same.

Mine are kind of pale as chicks, but you can definitely see buff on them. They normally have a streak or two of black, since the white gene they have is dominant and it tends to let black and red show through. They darken up as they get older, and the lacing becomes very defined by the time they get their adult feathers. If yours are all white, then you may have something other than buff.

Seems like there are no buff chickens in my flock, Bummer! Oh well, they are still cute and crazy. I just went on Feathersite.com and it appears as though I have non bearded whites.

What about a black spot on the beak, is that significant of anything?

My buff laced polish looked almost complete white-ish/yellow until 12 weeks or so.

Here's some progressive shots:

I wish mine looked like that at 6 weeks. We're talking snow white. I still love them though.

I'll try to take pictures soon and post them this weekend.

Can you tell their gender at this age?

This is them as day olds:
