Today is the end of day 21 for our first batch of eggs in our incubator. We are brand new at this and are getting a little concerned. I have not heard any chirping, not even with my stethoscope (I'm a nurse.) Yeah, its a little over the top but that's how I roll. (Judging from some of the posts I have read, I am not alone. Lol.) Is it a lost cause? How long should we wait?

Okay so I am no expert(we are 8 days in to our first batch) but I don't think it's a lost cause? I have read about other
late bloomers. Hopefully some experts will chime in soon. Keep us posted please...I hope you get something soon!

Ive got the same problem......this is day 22 nothing. I have read that if the temp is not right on 99.5 nothing higher than 102 then hatch can be delayed. I think allot of my problem is that my room temp makes the incubator temp fluctuate. The incubator is in a room that is closed off. but you have night and day temps. Its hard to keep it right on temp. I have candled several times and seen good growth and movement. Its making me frustrated. I have monitored and turned my eggs as all the directions say to do. It feels like I'm doing all this and getting no reward! Hope ya'll have better luck than I'm having. BTW I'm new to this artificial incubation too. I have read allot and studied it, and talked to others who are pros at it.

I heard my first peep last night....day 23.......had a chick this morning and another peeping and zipping. (day 24)
It is funny.they talk to each other..Also feel I followed directions to a T.
Guess Mother Nature is reminding us who is in charge

Hang in there.......little peepers likely cannot count to 21 yet.......
Good luck

Okay, I have been doing some careful monitoring of incubator temps. I had 2 thermometers in my incubator. they both read different temps. I had another one that I bought from Walmart that has a lithium battery. I put it in and it read like 93. something. So my guess is that the thermometer that you get with you bator is not very accurate. The first 2 that I had in there was reading egg temp (sitting on eggs) the other was sitting on the wire. So I guess maybe....just maybe my next setting should hatch on time if I use the lithium battery thermometer. So I was 4 or more degrees off the best temp which will slow hatch way down.

I have a Little Giant still air incubator. I have been internet shopping for another incubator and thinking of the next one being a 1588 The Genesis Hova-Bator

The Genesis Hova-Bator is pre-set for bird eggs. Simply plug it in, then add water and eggs. Nothing to set up or adjust. This circulated air Hova-Bator comes with a thermometer, plastic bottom liner, and is pre-set to 99. F (38 C). Like all incubators, the 1588 requires a stable room temperature and should not be used in areas like sheds or barns. Being pre-set, this incubator delivers consistently good hatches.

Price $126.90

I am seriously wanting to do allot of incubation next spring and possibly late this summer .

Late hatches are often quick hatches, so the waiting may well be worthwhile. I keep unhatched eggs till 4 days over, and I got one on the fourth day last time.

I do not know if you "candled" the eggs yet. But take a flashlight to the air sack/egg and see if they are viable. But wait an extra day or two to see if there are any new developments. I am

for you. Best of luck!!
