I had a peachick that hatched and the other eggs mom sat on didn't hatch so it was alone. I brought inside and it was doing great at about 3 wks old it was acting stiff and hurtful to walk. It continued to get worse and died. This morning, I have another peachick that is about 3 wks old and it is walking stiff and tired. Last night it was fine. I read that some can get bacterial infections and get arthritic. I mixed one amoxicillin 500 mg to 1 liter of water. I dont really know if this is the correct antibiotic...also not sure that this is a bacterial infection. If anyone knows what antibiotic to give or know if this could be another illness, I would appreciate any advise and treatments.

I am sorry nobody apparently knew what to reply here or the right people didn't see this.

How is your peachick doing now?

It died. It's was eating great but one of its knees was really swollen so it would get up, stand for a little while and lay down. Then last week I heard it crying and I picked it up from the kennel and it was convulsing and a few seconds later it died in my hands. I think it had a heart attack and it is unfortunate but it would have had to be put down as it wasn't improving. I have 4 chicks with no issues now. Yes, I think I posted in the wrong area as Im not familiar with the site very well. Thank you for replying

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's strange, I never saw this post at all and I check the peafowl forum every day. I know @KsKingBee would have answered you as well if he had seen it.

I hope the rest of your chicks do well. Hopefully you can still get help to figure out what it was in case it happens again.

Thank you! Yes it would be great to know how to handle the next time. I had read a lot of stuff and everything seemed to fit viral arthritis from. The symptoms but the other chicks did not get it thankfully. I have sterilized everything with ammonia to kill any parasites. Maybe someone will still reply thanks again.

Yes, it just appeared on my feed. The OP needs to finish the profile info and learn to post pics as that is a very valuable tool for us to be able to see the problem at hand. The most common antibiotics used in peafowl are Tylan 200 and Baytril, I mostly use Zactran as it stays in the system for five days which reduces the number of times you have to catch and stress the bird.
