Now I am completely confused. I thought my little Australorp had egg peritonitis yesterday but today maybe it is ascites?? I posted all about the details yesterday looking for help-- no one has responded yet but we drained the huge fluid sac WAYYYYYY down last night and more dripped out over night. She was eating like crazy after the draining & I put her in the crate. ALL of the fluid we drained was clear as could be. She has been quiet today. But is alert. I let her see the girls for a few minutes today and she walked around a good bit though acted "cautious"- went to their coop and drank water....
I googled and thinking it was egg yolk peritonitis I got duramycin-10 but haven't given it to her yet because now I am not sure I am dealing with peritonitis. I need some help. Please. She is only around 16-18 mos old.... I can't stand to see any animal suffer so I need to know what I am dealing with. I will not prolong the inevitable but I also want to try and make her well. Thanks.

I answered on your other thread. Ascites is caused by several different conditions: heart failure, liver disease, and as a result of egg yolk peritonitis or internal laying. If it is peritonitis, then penicillin or a better antibiotic from a vet would be more appropriate. There is very little that can be done for any of those besides trying to keep her comfortable, and draining the fluid periodically. You may need to think about putting her down at some point. I gave you some links to read on your other thread. I'm sorry.
