VERY excited to be on this site! Great info! So... 2 years into the golden comet dream & now wanting to breed them. Got all the info, but seeking folks around town who are selling either white plymouth rocks (pullets OR eggs) and/ or New Hampshires (roos). Most major sellers online want $20 + for shipping! Surely, we have some locals who have these breeds??? (I know that I can use Rhode Island Red roos, but I'd prefer the New Hampshires. I may change my mind, but one can only make decisions based on experiences. My gut is screaming: New Hampshire roos! Thanks for any info!

New Hampshire's would be good Roosters for your flock. The other chickens are also a good combo with your flock.

Hey there! Welcome! I'm near asheville too. I would call your tractor supply stores in the area, also waynesville coop. Google map both those. Normal is $3/chick. Tractor supply u gotta call them every day or so because they get new breeds.
I have used mcmurray, welp hatchery, and ideal hatchery. They ship to ur post office. With shipping it costs me 3-4.50 a chick. None of mine have died.
Look on craigslist too.
I bet u will find some soon! U will have to let us know!.

Great suggestions! I'll check it out! So far, Tractor supply gets random stuff in, so difficult to tell. Will call daily, though. I wish I knew how to sex the chicks. Wings at 1 day old is easy, but they are shipped and arrive at Tractor supply at days 2-3, but I'll try! Thx again!

I do feather sexing too ) muhahaha I took all of tsc 's Cornish jumbo x males.... Hehe so far looks like 5/5 are males. I think the worker there thought I was very strange looking at their wings.
