So far so good. I figured Id start a new thread since events have taken a turn. Nothing bad, yet. I'm staying optimistic though! Basically, I have an orphaned egg I've been doing my best to save. I have never incubated and hatched before. I'm new to all of this to be honest. The whole situation is sad but I'm focusing on saving a tiny life here! I believe that the constant up and down with the humidity has made this a less than ideal situation for my little guy and we are both doing our best here.
Three days ago he broke through into his air sack. I could see movement, but no peeping. Later that night I worried that he would run out of air. It was just shy of 18 hours and I had to sleep so I poked a teeny tiny hole in the shell to ensure he didn't run out of air during the night. Two days ago, there was still no progress but I waited. Yesterday morning I removed the cap on the egg. My little guy was shrink wrapped and I was concerned about the yolk drying up and rupturing. I put bacitracin over the membrane and could see the veins were still there, so we waited.
As of this morning, the veins have reabsorbed a bit but are still pretty prominent. I check on the humidity every hour or so and fight to keep it up in the 60s. Its the best I can do. I live in a very dry climate and its a constant struggle. He appears more active and more vocal. If I peep at him, he pees back.
I wish I had a way to post pictures but I don't.
