This fella (Jack) I has always suspected rooster. He is as large as my rooster. Thick legs etc.... as chicks him and the rooster faced off often and terrorized.

Pictures are so difficult. I could nor get his pea comb in focus. I hope these help

You can see him and the rooster looking through the fense. The same size. He just started getting really red. (Actually a lot of my chickens are, is 12/13 weeks a time they turn red, combs, wattles, around the eyes?)

I have other australorp mixes that look the same as roo and this fella but are dramatically smaller in size. But this could just how the mixes turned out. Do shiny blue feather indicate male on australorp breed? Or the brown feather developing in their chest?

Thank you

I am going to say pullet, I could be wrong but I would suspect a larger and more red comb than what she has--also I would think there should be some male feathering coming in at that age.

It is a peacomb. Does that get large for roosters?

He/she has brown chest flecks coming in too

My Australorp cross boys, even the ones with rose combs and pea combs, have had MUCH larger combs long before that age. Here are two Australorp x Brahma boys at about 9-0 weeks.

I'd also expect some male saddle feathers to be coming in by 12 weeks -- though they *could* be hiding under the other feathers if this bird is slower to mature.

It *could* be a slow-maturing stealth cockerel, but I'm strongly leaning pullet here. :)

So mine is just a really big hen (compare the first picture. Jack(in question) is the big one the one behind is a pullet. There is such a size difference! Same age

So the big ones being roosters and small ones being hens is a myth? There are so many gendering myths then
