My babies are scared of the big bad Cockatiel patrolling the kitchen and though they are well able to get out of the brooder box, they don't. I have seen them jump up the to the top of the box and sit a minute, then jump right back down inside. Only one spent any time outside it at all, and she was more than happy to rejoin her hatchmates. Never has anyone escaped since. Finally, a solution to finding a top! All that's needed is a bossy small parrot with a healthy dose of curiosity. LOL

Could you send it out to me on cleaning day? I am having a hard time getting them to stay in a box or something while clean the brooder. I was thinking that maybe they think its a small hawk. Around here they need pratice looking out for them so that would be a good thing.

LOL catch me on the right day, and it'll be a one way ticket!

Hahaa, I'd like to rent it on cleaning day too! It's better than having a ruckus in my bathtub!

My cats 'babysit'. I do have a cover on my brooder. I made it out of 1X4 lumber and plywood. I made the frame out of the 1X4, then a piece of plywood. I cut a circle in the plywood for my brooder lamp (since they are in the house, I only use a 75w incandecent bulb, plenty of heat, but not a fire hazard being in contact with the plywood. Its warm to the toch, not hot). I then made a smaller frame and glued in a screen section for access and good ventilation. My brooder iscurrently 24"X18", with a hieght of 18". They do pop up to the top when I open it up. I already have a larger brooder for when then outgrow this one. I expect that to happen soon. That one in the same hieght, but it is 3'X5'. I made a screen framed lid for that one.
