At what age will female bantams get a Comb start showing?

When we picked our chicks we selected those with no noticeable combs Some other hatch mates had definite combs already by 3-4 weeks so we avoided those.

Now 4-5 weeks and two have very small combs showing. Still nowhere near the size of those we left behind.

Is it possible these could still be hens if getting small comb at 4-5 weeks?

Not sure of breed but Frizzle Silkie mix.

Here is the with and without, the one on the left has the starting of the bumps for a comb, the one on the right nothing. The little brown one in the second photo also has the starting of a comb as well. Those we left behind with combs already had definate couldnt miss them combs.

Possible they are still both hens?

And is there a name for that sort of colouring? and any ideas on the breed mixed with the silkie?

The ones with the "bumps" look like their combs are single. Not sure whether the other one is, but appears to be two different comb types not due to sex. They look like pullets to me at that age.

In the top picture the chick on the right, you see the lump on its beak kind of? Well that called a walnut comb and, i'm not sure because thier mixes, but that would mean it is a rooster. In silkies at least, that comb only shows in the roosters. To sum it up the one on the right is a roo and the one on the left... kind of looks like a hen actually. Hope this helps!

No that doesn't help because it's not supposed to be a rooster lol. Funnily enough that one belongs to the kid that didn't want a girl so I guess she will be happy.

I can cope with one rooster if need be, as long as the fourth one who looks very silky isn't one too! It's just got a fluffy baby chick head so far though.

Okay so an updated photo of the possible boys comb. Its not got much bigger by 7 weeks. Is that a good sign?? (crossing fingers here

Darn, we'll we can live with one boy. Fingers crossed the little silkie that's left turns out to be a girl.
