Hey, I am new, in the process of purchasing a home. I am hoping to keep an outdoor area for large breed rabbits, for fun, pets. They will be bedded down each night like chickens do. I keep house rabbits right now, and have two who have been with me for 6 years.

In doing my research for this project, I kind of happened upon the beautiful idea that a few chickens (hens) would do fine with large rabbits. I could have a chicken coop, bunny coop, and a shared run I think.

Just looking to learn as much as I can. This would all be just for my enjoyment. No business or breeding. Just want a small little herd of critters on my land. :)

I will also be getting a guardian type dog before any of this happens :)

Oh, and here is a photo of my two babies who live with me now. :)

Hello and welcome to BackYard Chickens! :jumpy Glad you joined. Everyone here is very kind and helpful :)
What breed of rabbits do you have? And what chicken breeds are you looking to get?
You may be interested in BackYard Herds, BYC's sister site. They have a whole section on rabbits. We also have a Bunny Chat thread here in the "Other Pets and Livestock" section.
I love bunnies, so I'm always free to talk about them or help with any questions you have.
:welcome

Oh thank you for the tips!
I think maybe 3 silkie hens? something cute, fancy and a bit cuddly? no idea obviously :D

My bunnies I have now are Holland Lops. Aster 3.5lb) is the dad, ChaCha(5.5lb) is his daughter. Aster was married to the bun of my life, AbiT. I had to put her down at a young age due to her having an abcess that went nuclear in her teeth. I spent THOUSANDS trying to save her. :( Anyways..I have her husband and baby girl.
Everyone is fixed obviously :)

What I am hoping to do outside is have giant breed rabbits, probably a couple does and a fixed buck. Safe shed style sleeping quarters, with a big run in the yard for day time.

Awesome!

So sorry about your bunny :(

I'm actually looking at building a large shed and run for my future bunnies as well (since I am not able to free roam indoors).
