Attacked by dog, lost back feathers, not sure what to do now.

So my chicken got out and got attacked by a dog, who just thought that she was a fluffy chew toy. The dog did not kill the chicken, which really says a lot for the dog I guess! The chicken was in shock and a little traumatized, but seems to be bouncing back fine. I have separated her from the rest of the coop. And I'm making sure she gets plenty of food and water in a clean space. My big question is about her back, because it was a dog attack, it removed the little tubes that the feathers grow out of. It looks like she has some scabbing on the back, but again is healing all right. It's a very small flock (3 hens), so I'm not too worried about bullying, I am a little worried about sunburning though. Am I doing anything right, am I doing stuff wrong? Should I be doing something extra? Any suggestions on how long I leave her separate?

I would get some BluKote spray to put over the wound to hide the wound from the other chickens. But if you can keep her separated for a few days, I would apply some plain antibiotic ointment twice a day to help it heal. Feathers may nit grow back again until she molts.

I second blue kote. It's actually an anti-septic spray. You can find it on amazon. When one of my chickens was attacked I used it on them for the anti-septic purposes but also the blue dye in it kept the other chickens from attacking her wounds.
