My husband discovered that something had spent a good deal of time trying to gnaw its way into our chicken coop. It had tried to breech the coop by gnawing on the corner of a nesting box. My husband has reinforced the corner with hardware cloth so that corner should be secure now.

Any idea what would try to gnaw through wood to get to the chickens? It could be anything. We live in the exurbs and have all indigenous North American varmints: foxes, coyotes, raccoons, opossums, skunks, weasels, etc

The one thing i think people keeping chickens dont think about enough is rats, we all know they can gnaw through anything but depends on the size and shape of the marks etc. Sounds like any of the above could do the damage:(

So many animals would give it a try.Good time to set up a game cam. I would love to see what was chewing. They will be back!
