My husband discovered that something had spent a good deal of time trying to gnaw its way into our chicken coop. It had tried to breech the coop by gnawing on the corner of a nesting box. My husband has reinforced the corner with hardware cloth so that corner should be secure now.
Any idea what would try to gnaw through wood to get to the chickens? It could be anything. We live in the exurbs and have all indigenous North American varmints: foxes, coyotes, raccoons, opossums, skunks, weasels, etc
