went to an auction today and bought 3 lots of chickens for .25 each , we were told before bidding they had mites and I just finished a battle from a previous batch ( they are clean now ) have a quarrentene pen/brooder away from all the other pens so I got 17 chicks from 3 weeks to 1.5 months old for under $5. 8 of them are pure RIR
Is it crazy to buy chicks knowing there is a mite problem or is this the right way to go ????

Yeah not a good idea at all, but then again if the rumor wasn't true you could have passed on some decent birds. I always check any stock before I bid for mites, bumble foot and I even smell their beaks for any sign's of infection, I have been lucky so far, but mites are a pain in the rear if you bring them home. Better safe than sorry.
