Yes, it sounds like you have a young cockerel finding his voice. Pullets don't crow. Sometimes older hens with hormonal issues do, but not young ones.

Agreed. On those rare occasions when a hen crows it's virtually always an older hen that has assumed the role of a rooster in a roosterless flock.
