I woke to crowing this morning. Not a good thing, I ordered 2 Auracanas, 1 Campine and 1 Faverolle pullets from McMurray. They are 6 weeks old and in a brooder box in my den, the biggest Auracana is crowing! I live in a neighborhood and can't have roosters, only 10 hens and I can't free range. I have been thru this before, last year I had to re-home 2 Silkie roos and I don't want to go down that road again. My neighbors were not bothered by the crowing but one of the Silkies bit me and I have 2 kids that I need to protect. Can anyone tell me about Auracana Roosters?

Should I separate them in the brooder now and keep the Auracanas together and put the Campine and Faverolle together until they are big enough and ready to go outside? I have 4 big girls out in the coop, 2 cochins and 2 Buff Rocks. Should I build another coop for the Auracanas and order more girls for the big boy?

Well first, you don't have Araucanas, sorry. You have crossbred chickens called Easter Eggers who may have some Ameraucana gene in them, but that's it. One easy way to tell is that your rooter would have no tail and a nice pair of tufts, plus his feet should be yellow or willow colored and his color should be an APA recognized color. . I'm guesing he's black breasted red typey or a white with splashing of red and golden feathers with possibly a lot of black on the chest.

Araucanas are really good, but your Easter Eggers, being hybrids, can really vary. Mine I got from Murray McMurray as well, and he's a complete sweetheart. . . But I've also seen very aggressive EE roosters too.

My little boy had a EE roo last year... We got him as a day old from a farmer. He was well socialized and spoiled... but he still was a jerk! He started flogging Kam, and we had Kam chase after him when he charged, trying to break him of this behavior, and it did not work! We had to rehome him. I also had another EE roo we got at the same time, same age and conditions, he was so laid back, he couldn't leave the coop because he got picked on so bad! So we had to rehome him too, to a place where he'd be the big rooster in the yard.

Thanks, yes I am aware that they are not real Auracanas, even though that's how McMurray sells them. He is the only roo...should I put him in with the other girls or plan on keeping the 2 Americanas/Auracanas in a separate coop and order more girls. I hate to go through the expense and time to set it up and have him turn on me after all..I know you can't answer that for me....I just need to vent to folks that get it!!

Well my arucana just met a 2 x4 as I put out her before and her was sooooooooooooooo pretty He was white no tail, and He had tufts, and i hand raised him and he was as mean as snot! but I have some chicks that are almost amonth old from him now
