So, I’ve organised for an Austalorp rooster. He’s hatching soon and I’m getting a hen as well. I’ve got 5 other hens. 4 ISA Browns and a New Hampshire x Australorp. Will the rooster be alright to mate with the ISA Browns? And if he is what kind of chook should I get (layer, meat or dual)? Or do I need to seperate the small girls from the rooster?

i don’t want the girls to be hurt but I’m hoping to have a rooster to breed with all the chooks. Also, please don’t tell me what breed rooster to get to breed with all the girls, I’ve already organised for the rooster and the hen. I appreciate your opinion but the australorp has been something I’ve always wanted and I’d rather just seperate them than get a different rooster.

Thank you in advance.

No problem there. My australorp roo has several leghorn hens in his flock. He is very much a gentleman. He was raised within the flock asap so the older hens taught him good manners.

I am very curious, how do you know you're going to get a rooster before it is even hatched?
Well, we ended up going a different way and are getting point of lay/working. We didn't know a rooster was going to hatch, we were just going by the fact that in the hatch they couldn't get all girls and if they did it'd be pretty bloody lucky.

Hi. Have you had any aggressive Australorp rooster?

This is an older post, but I was just wondering how this worked out.
