I have some Australorps that have some black on the comb. It is mostly from the nose back. One goes almost to the middle of the comb and on is just a short ways.

I have really grown to like the Australorps. I have three hens now and 4 roos. they are quiet and calm chickens. Great to be around.
I am glad there isn't something wrong with the combs. I have never had a chicken before with any black on the comb unless it was frost bite. This time of year that is not possible. LOL
Mine are the same way. The two I have are my favorite birds. We call them the 'Sissies' b/c they are sisters. Henny Penny and Nosey Rosey. Here they are doing their favorite thing, enjoying the hammock with my DS:
Nice hens. I have a Sissy too but she is a Delaware. LOL She is great too. But my older Aussie is Willa and the two younger ones are Katie and Cora. The young ones I haven't gotten too tame yet because they are running in the youngster pack with 4 roosters. when the roos are gone I will tame them down more.
I absolutely love these birds too. I got 8 chicks (EE, BR, BO, Australorp) and all died from an illness except these two. Henny Penny almost died, and Nosey Rosey didn't even get sick. I don't know if that is why they are so nice. Just to think I didn't even want the these two!
Here is a pick from earlier in the month of Penny's comb. It is bigger that Roseys, but I don't think
she is a roo. She is smaller and more timid than her sister and no pointy hackle feathers or saddle feathers. I guess I would be able to tell at 4 months if she is a roo, correct?

You would definitely be able to tell at 4 months if she were a roo. I have 4 roos that are 12 weeks and they are really easy to spot. Although this is not a good picture you can see the roos comb and the hens comb. They bunch together because they are the youngsters in the group and although they really are almost as big they still feel intimidated. They are coming out of it little by little though.
You can see the black on the rooster comb that I was talking about. I didn't notice it until he got bigger. One of the other ones has black too.
