Here my question, I have been raising quail for two years now but this year I have many more orders than before. So now I hatch between 100 and 250 each week, with so many going in to my home made brooders and the southern heat I am having to water them every 3 hours or more.
I have bought the economy drink cups from Kuhl corp in hopes to add automatic waters to the brooders but it seems these small quail can not push the plunger down enough to get water out of them. Even had one stand on the little yellow plunger and no water would come out lol.

So now you tell me what you use and be specific and all. I am losing too many birds to guess at these things. Manufacturer website, nipple name model number, etc.

Please help me out here,20 dead today alone!

Hey there kingbee i have heard of this problem when hathcing lots of quail.
I saw this waterer on Mcmurrays Hatchery its atomatic but i dont know if quail could drowned in it.
This is the link http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/automatic_water_troughs.html its pretty cool they have a video on youtube.com and shows how it works.
Good Luck

Yes those are the cups I ordered and tried in the brooder, and no so far the baby quail have not been able to make them function, I also put some in with my breeders and they seem to be ok and able to drink out of them.

I have considered buying nipples from this site but am waiting for them to answer my questions whether or not they will work with baby quail.

You can also use rabbit water bottles, the one with little balls on the end of a spout. (Make sure the ball is loose! Not with a spring!) People swear by these.

Well I sell quail for almost anything you can think of and some you may not.
I will soon sell to restaraunts for food. (I process them)
I sell to the public Live and processed.
I sell to people who want to train quail dogs to hunt.
I sell to people who wish to raise quail themselves.
I sell eggs to gourmet stores and asian markets.

And don't hate for this one ,no peta people I hope.

I sell to reptile breeders and such as snake food.

But the biggest is just for food to friends and co workers.

Everyone is telling me to use rabbit waterers, this is the whole reason I want an automatic waterer, I can not keep these small things full of water, I fill em and two hours later they are empty. I need something that I can fill once a day or fills itself. What every it is it has to be safe to keep them from drowning in and large enough to remain full for 12 or more hours.

Have sent messages to several MFG. but not heard anything yet.
