I'm interested to find out what people are paying for chicks in their respective areas and exactly what they have available to them. I didn't see a way to divide the poll into regions so if you participate and don't mind adding a comment with the following information and average prices that would be great!

• Purpose? Layers, Meat, Dual, Rare Breed

• Hybrid or Purebred?

• Box Store or Private Breeder?

• State or Region your located in?

• Most youve paid per chick? For what breed?

• Straight Run, sexed pullets, cockerels?

The chicks from Tractor Supply and other feed places are running $5 - $10. The local hatcheries are much higher, but they're selling rarer breeds.
Assuming you are in North Florida?

I'm in Middle Tennessee - Chicks from breeders run any where from 5-25 each here. Not sure about TSC/Coop bc I haven't purchased from hatcheries in 2 yrs. I am breeding and wanted better foundation stock then what they provide

I'm in Northeast Oregon and chicks out here cost anywhere from $5 to $25, depending on what you're looking for straight runs are generally $5 apiece. Sex, chickens and heritage breeds can be up to twenty five dollars. since the price it varries so much i decided to mail order mine, and they came out of missouri for five dollars apiece plus shipping and insurance. And total amount was approximately ten dollars per chick. Mine are also sent Barred rocks for eggs.

You assume correctly! :)

The price for chicks from breeders around the here run as high as $45. I assume it's because they're rarer birds, but I can't justify spending that much on a chick. At some point I hope to breed my own, but I'm just starting out now and that'll be down the road a piece.

I’m in Europe but I like this poll because now I can see what you Americans pay for chicks and wow, very different economy.

For reference, I would have to pay 1€ for mixed straight run day old from a hatchery nearest to me. 1,30€ for a straight run day old mix at poultry swap which is even closer to home. The average price for chicks could be 2-3€ for purebred like Wyandotte, to up to 8€ for Orpington though. This is why I don't own any even though I really wanted Orpington once upon a time(before our chicken keeping became an egg business)
They’re close to show standard btw.

I heard Ayam Cemani is rare and expensive for you guys? Well is it strange to know they’re common and cheap here?(2€ a chick, 15€ per pullet)

Swedish flower hen, millefleur, d’uccle, silkie is pretty common and cheap here.

But Orpington, Brahma, Cochin, Australorp, RIR, Barred Rock, Marans and Araucana/Americana/EE can run me out of money for just a few.

We have breeds that are similar like Darkshell(Marans ish), Greenshell(Legbar ish. You guys call this breed Sapphire Sky?), Blue Dominant(you guys called Sapphire Gem) and an array of breeds with Dominant at the end.

Pullets are around 8-15€ here for mix and 20-35€ for purebred.
