Average Hatch Percentage for Shipped Eggs?

I think hatching percentages vary greatly depending on weather, what sorting centers they go through and on the hardiness of the breed/line of chickens. I probably average 25% on my shipped eggs and the typical hatch of my own eggs is 90% or better (excluding two catastrophes).

The hatch rate for shipped eggs incubated in an ideal manner runs the full spectrum. Feel fortunate with a 50% hatch. That is better than average. So many factors go into it including age and fertility rate of eggs, handling by usps, how the eggs were packed and how you incubate them.

The most important variable IMHO is the fertility of the eggs and age of 7 days or less when they go in the bator. Buying on BYC my hatches are way better than eggbid or EBAY. I can only attribute that to a higher standard of quality of eggs sent by BYC members. Buy here if you can.

I started with 20 BCM eggs and 14 made it to lock down. They started hatching yesterday aroung noon. AS of right now 7 of the 14 are out and doing great. Still waiting on the other 7. In the past anything better than 50% is good and if you get 75% or better your doing awsome. Below is a pic of the first 3 to hatch. The one in the bottom of the pic is being a little camera shy.

I had 5 Wheaten and 5 Black Copper (Bev Davis). 4 Wheaten and only 1 Black Copper hatched.
