Hi All,

I'm starting to think my 4-week salmon faverolle has avian encephalomyelitis. It started a few weeks ago with laying down a lot and rolling to her side when laying down. Antibiotics and separating her seemed to help and so I put her back with the other two, but she started declining again - laying down a lot, slightly off balance, falling to one side when laying down. She has also newly developed a head tick which tipped me off to the potential of encephalomyelitis. She is still eating and drinking, although less than my other two. She is also small and less-feathered than the others (although they are all three different breeds).

Has anyone had a chick survive encephalomyelitis? Any tips/tricks? Also, what is the best secondary brooder/chick hospital you have created? I don't have the space for a full second brooder inside, and am currently using a modified laundry basket.

Thanks!

Can you post some photos of her and her poop?
What are you feeding?

I'm sorry about your chick, from a quick glance at your other threads, it seems she's not been well for several weeks now.
She may be failure to thrive or have some other condition that is affecting her, hard to know.

Have you tried any vitamin therapy as suggested in your previous threads?

Where are you located in the world? The other chicks are 4 weeks old? Is your coop/run ready for them? I would put the others outside if the weather is fairly agreeable.
A brooder can be anything from a laundry basket to large cardboard box (or two taped together). Line the brooder with puppy pads for easier cleanup.

There is no treatment or cure for Avian Encephalomyelitis. https://thepoultrysite.com/disease-guide/avian-encephalomyelitis-epidemic-tremors
