Hi All,

As my current flock is on lock down and I am practicing preventative biosecurity (as my family typically does) I was concerned about the new batch of baby chicks that I have ordered from Mount Healthy Hatchery set to arrive April 29th. I saw this from Murray McMurray but currently Mount Healthy does not have any updates. Does anyone have any info on baby chicks and HPAI? Is it safe? Should I be concerned?

Here is a link to the video and article Murray McMurray posted yesterday:

Several points to ponder.

H5N1 is killed ff at temperatures above 99 after seven days.

It is not passed on to the chick

And once the eggs get to the hatchery, a different set of biosecurity protocols are in effect that lessons the chances of spread of disease if there is any chance it would come in with the eggs.

So chicks are safe with this varient.
