So, I was sitting in bed, minding my own business, when this idea hit me like a truck. What if I built an aviary for my quail and pigeons?
The aviary will be an extension of my current pigeon cage. 8x8x8. I haven’t bought the materials yet because I need to move the pigeon cage to where the aviary will be. Question, can I use bird netting over the top instead of hardware cloth?
The aviary will be planted, with grass, rocks, and natural branches and bushes everywhere. It will take awhile, but I’m determined to get it done!

Netting will work. Make sure that it is strong enough to hold up. The bird netting that is used to protect fruit trees from birds eating all the fruit off, I think would be insufficient.
I have suggested swimming pool leaf covers as a possible alternative for peeps building large runs for their chickens.
I am also not sure of keeping pigeons and quail in same aviary, since I never had quail. Maybe someone else can chime in on that combination.
I know that, it is not suggested to keep chickens, and pigeons together, since squabs could get cannibalized by fierce chickens. I did have success keeping bantams and pigeons together in the past. The pigeons were housed together with the banties, and were not raising squabs during that period. If you make a large aviary , and partition it, I think you would have a more ideal setup.
