My BA hatched 3 eggs a few weeks ago and unfortunately only one has survived to this day. 1 disappeared yesterday... Hawk I'm afraid. The other zigged when my 6 year old was trying to zag. It was a very sad accident.
The last few nights I went out to check on the coop and found mama up on the roost and baby huddled alone in her crate. I brought mama back down and put her in the crate with the baby. Last night I went out and the baby was up on the roost with mama but complaing loudly about it. I'm just curious about time lines. When does a mother hen usually let her babies know it's time to go it alone? 3 weeks seems awful young to me, and way to young to be 6 feet off the ground on a roost! Suggestions?
