Hi all, I have only had chickens since last june which we got at a day old and brought up on a brooder anyway......we have a roo and 5 girls. The girls started laying beginning of the year, and I let my 1st broody sit on 3 eggs. They all successfully hatched and we now have babies. At the advice from elsewhere I removed her from the main coop and brought her in. Now my question is when do I reintrouduce her to the flock with the chicks??? As I have been given loads of conflicting advice!?! Thanks all 😁

Hi @xrdee
I'm so sorry that nobody has answered your question.

My recommendation is to put her and the chicks into the coop, yet separated from the adults. If you're able to, put some wire in between, so that the big birds can't get to the chicks. After a little while, the big birds will get used to having the littles around and will most likely ignore them when fully integrated.

If you have a roo with your big girls, that's a good thing. More often than not, if the littles are going to be picked on it'll be by the hens. The roo will actually help to protect the littles.

I hope that this helps. Welcome to BYC btw.
