My Holland lop had babies on Friday. This is her second litter. She is a very good mama. The last litter she had six but one was still born and raised the other five just great. She also actually made her nest in the nesting box. The current litter she decided to make a nest inside her little burrow area instead of the nesting box. She had seven this time!!!
I have been checking them frequently and monitoring to make sure they are growing just because I know there are seven and that’s a lot to feed. They had been doing really well and then we had a cold snap! I specifically planned to avoid winter months and then we had this late cold snap! My daughter went to check on them and because they’re not in the nesting box one made it out of the burrow and into her open air area. Unfortunately, we did not get to her in time to warm her up and she passed. I carefully moved all of her bedding and material into the actual nesting box so that there’s less likely that babies will come out until they’re ready. My concern is will she go to look for them there? The nest box has continued to be in there the whole time so she knows it’s there. It was right where it was last time when she had a litter and she’s been looking in there since I put them in there, so I think she is aware that they are there! I will be checking frequently to make sure that they are getting fed. Do you think they will be fine since I moved them?
