Ok so mother abandoned the 14 eggs after 3 hatched. I put them underneath a heat lamp and that night one hatched. Once the lil one semi cracked through- I put it back in the coop underneath momma to let Mother Nature take its course and she took it in. Don’t think I will ever do again. The next day after I got off work and went to check on the lil ones - I only counted the three. I went in searching for the 4th baby and found it struggling under the hen house bleeding. So I picked it up and brought it in. Put the lil one underneath the lamp. He’s barely chirping but wobbling around. His eyes are closed but sometimes it manages to open briefly. The baby looks hurt and still bleeding. Maybe it was peeked? The baby looks to be in bad shape and seems weak and sleepy. What do I do? I didn’t want to warm wash chic in case bleeding happens. Maybe premature? Maybe had trouble hatching? Umbilical cord issue? I am new to this and not sure what to do?

It looks like the umbilicus is bloody - possibly either pecked or unhealed (or both). I'd put an antibiotic ointment without pain reliever on the area to help prevent infection and offer a supplement like Poultry Nutri-Drench or Rooster Booster Vitamins And Electrolytes with Lactobacillus. Be sure he stays warm, too, since he may have gotten chilled while under the hen house - very young chicks have difficulty with thermoregulation.

Best wishes for his recovery!
