Hi my fellow chick lovers! Last night I had four hatch within in an hour. The second one was laying on its side and I was sure it was dying! I did separate and much to my surprise when I went in this morning it was up but dragging one leg behind itself! Is drinking, not sure yet about eating, I put some drench in the water. Can someone shed some light on this, should I leave it alone? should I try and splint it? I would appreciate any and all advise! Thank You and God Bless!

I'm sorry to hear that.

Leg problems in newly hatched chicks is fairly common. It could be due to genetics, incubation temperature, the nutrition of the parents, or just a weak chick. You should try splinting it first, to strengthen it up. Make sure the chick gets lots of good vitamins and stays warm and hydrated. Problems like this can be corrected.

I hope that it heals up. Best of luck!
