From what I'm gathering here on the forum, it looks like it won't hurt the chicken, but I'm just curious if the chick being 6 weeks old matters. It was a pretty funny site, to be honest. Just outside gathering pine straw, pine cones, and random debris to burn and I see the Australorp chick running around with what I thought was a worm at first... a fat worm lol. As I got closer, more so to help her out cause the others were wanting her prize, I noticed blood coming from the body... that's when I figured it was a snake and not a worm. I didn't get a good look at it, but I just let her at it. She ended up involuntarily sharing it with the Buff Orpington.

Anyway, so it won't hurt them, correct?

Thanks everyone!

No, it shouldn't hurt them. It provides lots of good nutrition, actually.

Sounds like you have some tough little chicks.

Now you understand why people sometimes refer to chickens as feathered T-Rexes.

This is also a good example of the good things that comes a chickens' way by it being at the top of the pecking order.

I had a roo that would hunt snakes, mice, basically whatever came it’s way it killed. He always ate what he killed after showing it off to the flock.

I see you are a recent new member of BYC, :welcome :frow I like seeing older threads revived. I don't have any birds that have encountered snakes, but I have had a rat snake wrapped around a milk crate I was using in one of the coops as a nest box. I got it out. I have seen rats and mice before in a coop, they were nesting in it. I have since renovated that coop because it was infested and haven't seen any rodents in quite awhile. Maybe that is why I had the snake. I did find a rat in a nest box. Hopefully no more.
