My cochin chicks are around 2 weeks old. One of them has wing feathers around the same length as the rest but doesn't have tail feathers or any other feathers coming in like the others. She seems a little taller but doesn't act assertive or alert like a boy. She's a follower and docile. The others are more active. Has anyone found some of their female chicks to be a taller than the rest or did they turn out to be boys?

I wouldn't go by size or even attitude while they are young and 2 weeks old is still an infant .

Post photos when 6-8 weeks old and we can probably - figure her/him out for you

I agree that they're still quite young. The thing is that a few years ago we were able to sort of spot our partridge cochin cockerel, Oliver, when he was roughly 3 weeks based on personality and feathering rate.

I do think Millie, the chick in question, is feathering faster than Oliver did as well as cochin chick growth pics I've seen online but still behind the others in feathering. Perhaps it's common that some pullets feather quite slow? She also feathers slower than our cochin (she was with Oliver) of the same color and her feathers are darker.

Here's Millie, the chick in question. Barred pattern.

And Quincy for comparison, she's a laced pattern.

Has anyone had a female chick that has feathered slowly? I checked her today and saw she barely has tail feathers coming in.

3 weeks old now. These were taken 2 days ago. Even though it's not clear, she's feathered quite a bit though still behind.

I've taken some more photos of Millie and Quincy (for comparison).

Millie. Her wing feathers have an interesting angle to them that looks pointed but when I extended her wing they weren't pointed.

Her feathers have grown in well over the past week but how her tail feathers have grown is peculiar.

Here's Quincy. Much more feathered out. The tail feathers on her and the others are that puffy look that is more toward pullet.
