I am sorry it didn't make it. I have just experienced something very similar. I just hatched 17 maran eggs. On the 21st day 11 hatched without any issues. Those 11 are doing great. 5 of the other 6 hatched two days later, 1 didn't hatch at all. Of the 5 that hatched late, none survived. They all had bloated bellies and some bloody slime left in the shells, they died before they ever dried out. The one that didn't hatch, had completely developed, but it cracked through the shell and then died without hatching. I am using a little giant still air incubator with an automatic turner. I kept the humidity at about 35% until day 18, then I raised it to around 60% for the last three days. I have hatched a lot of eggs over the years, and have never been able to get through a hatch without this happening to some of the eggs. I have to think it's just natural selection. If anyone knows what causes this, I would love to know.
