so had one chick hatch and the other had pipped but it had been 24 hours and still hadn’t made any progress...chick was chirping and all but just seemed stuck and membranes looked dry. I decided to help the chick out of egg..there was no blood and no yoke. Chick is bag in incubator but is sticky and can’t stand up. He has been in incubator for 24 hours..I washed with warm water to help remove albumen..chick is still trying to stand and Chirps. He still looks sticky though and won’t fluff out. Anything else I can do? Should I leave him incubator

Hi @Haleyn :frow Welcome To BYC

If you have photos that may be helpful.

Did you dry the chick really well after you washed it? I would probably put him back in the incubator for a while longer. Sometimes assisted hatches are very weak and just don't make it, but give it some time.
Do you have any other eggs in the incubator that are hatching?

Do you have any poultry Nutri-Drench? If you do, give the chick 1 drop a couple of times today.

I did dry him well. I have him on a damp paper towel in incubator to prevent him from sticking to the bars at the bottom. I don’t have any drench but can get some if needed. And no other eggs hatching..when I helped him I am sure it has caused other eggs not to hatch. Give me a few minutes and I will post pic of him.

In the pics he looks wet but he is dry it’s like his feathers are matted together.

He very perky and tried to wobble around..his appearance looks bad and he can’t stand up.

I think you should leave it in the incubator To see if he can dry off a little more I would not risk him getting cold and dying

That’s what I have been doing. He has been in there right at 25 hours. Temp is 100.0 ? Should it be warmer or cooler or anything?

I think you should maybe try letting the feathers get wet with your finger so they can untangle themselves and he can dry but u should try and keep him warm at all times

I would not put him on a damp paper towel, that will eventually get cold for him even in the incubator.
He is not fluffed for sure. I put him somewhere warm for a few minutes. Put some shelf liner, a soft cloth or towel or even use some dry paper towels to line your incubator, then put him back in for a while - any of those should help with him not getting stuck in the bars.

How are you going to brood your babies - heat plate, heat lamp, heating pad, etc?

You can take a soft bristle toothbrush and gently brush the fluff to see if some of that will come off. Since he is weak I would be very careful. He should be fine in the incubator for several hours, just make sure your vents are open. If you have no Nutri-Drench, make a little sugar water and give him a couple of drops - dip a qtip in the sugar water and press it beside the beak allowing the chick to take it in - they can choke easy if you try to syringe it.

We use a heat lamp. This is only our second attempt using incubator. We prefer to let the hens do the work but the hen to these had eaten two of her eggs and we hated to risk losing them. I will definitely lay him on a soft cloth to prevent him from laying on the bars. Thank you.
