We just got 5 barred rock chicks last week and 4/5 have been growing perfectly and so active and already trying to fly away. But one one baby has not been able to walk for the last 2 days. It is having no issues eating and drinking but it's just not growing the same and seems super weak. We are hoping to do as much as we can from home. Everything I've read has been splayed legs but I'm not sure it's the issue. She generally sits with one tucked under her body and the other is sitting straight out ahead. She went from being perfectly fine to not walking withing a couple hours. I'm hoping to get some stuff to do at home.
So far I've sprayed the chick from the others because they were tamping it. I have also gave a bit of sugar, baking soda and salt mixture I found online to help give the chick so energy and its doing better in terms of energy. It's still eating and drinking and pooping but just can't walk.
Adding a picture of the big ones and our little runt for comparison.

Sounds like it might have leg issues and time to cull it unless you are gonna care for a lame chicken properly.
That's what I was worried about. This is out first time and my husband and I both are not prepared mentally for that.

:welcome :frow Some chicks simply do not thrive and will succumb. Some are simply not meant to be. I have had chicks with issues and they eventually don't make it. Good luck...

The longer it takes the more you get attached and the harder it will be on you. You are also letting a bird suffer. Things like this happens and is part of raising livestock.

That's very true! I'm sure with time it gets somewhat easier to do. I do think we have to but we were hoping we would be able to help the chick before coming to that.
