Hello. I had a flock of 5 chickens plus one baby about 1 1/2 months old. Mom chicken was killed today by a hawk and I would like advice about if I should leave baby with the flock or bring her inside until she is older. When we went to get chick, she was up in high coop with flock. She had been pecked by other chickens, but not too badly. I have one rooster and 3 hens...Any advice is appreciated!

Leave it with the flock but leave them all in as the hawks are apparently thick in your area and the hawks usually target the little youngsters. But since it seems to be integrated into the flock, I would leave it. I put my youngsters out as soon as they have feathers. They run around and dodge the older birds until they are just another flock member. My flock is used to youngsters as it is perfectly natural for young birds to be with the flock

You are welcome. How is it doing?.... I am sorry about your mama hen. The hawks are very bad now. I leave my birds in since I work all day. Your little chick will be ok with it's flock as long as they are kept in. A hawk would quickly zero in on a little baby.
