Hey guys, I'm new to this whole chicken thing. I just got this little baby last night and everything seemed fine. This morning when I woke up it was standing on one foot and limping a bit when walking. I turned it over and saw that the little knee joint looks a bit red and swollen. I'm wondering if I should be overly concerned or it this looks like something that a little rest and isolation will cure. I'm guessing this happened in transit and the soreness set in overnight while they were sleeping. I had to slam on my brakes at one point and I heard the babies sliding around in the box. :/
Any recommendations would be very welcome. Thank you

Welcome to BYC. Yes it could be a sprain. Can the chick stand up and walk normally? I wouldn't isolate it since it needs companionship, unless the others start to trample it, and then I would just make a little fence or divider in the brooder. Hopefully, the little one will heal in a week or two. You may know to check daily for pasty butt for the first week or so, but in the picture there is a little poo on the vent that needs to be cleaned off.

Well someone is gimping around much better today :D still a slight limp, but the redness is gone. Thanks for the advice about the poo bum. Boy did the other chick have a mess going on. All cleaned up and better now though. They've had their expensive organic chick starter and probiotics and even a couple tiny mealworms. I think I have a couple of very happy babies. They keep doing this cute trilling thing. They sound like a couple of songbirds when they do it. So adorable. :)
