Baby chick stuck poop

I have a baby button quail (about four days old) who had some dry poo stuck to his butt, he was frantically (and failing) trying to clean it off. So I got a paper towel and remved the visible piece then I realize he had poo sticking out of his butt and that it’s dried rockhard and I couldn’t remove it without ripping all the feathers out that it’s encased. For the past few hours he’s been running around frantically trying to reach his bottom with little exhausted naps in between. How can I help him?

You need to grab him and soak his bottom in warm water. Slowly rub it off as it softens. DO NOT PULL IT OFF! You will pull out his intestines. Watch him for the next week because it can continue to happen and is deadly. Make sure to dry him off afterwards.

I had several chicks with pasty butt. Every day I had to soak and clean somebody's butt. Sometimes it takes a few minutes or several tries to get it all off.
