Is there anything I should be doing to get it to grow properly. Chic is eating and drinking, cleaning itself posing some problems, so I am handling this.

Hey! As long as chicks like this are eating I leave them be and I set aside extra food for them, sometimes I'll wet it and make a mush of sorts if that is easier for them to eat. Sadly I have never had a chick like that grow to full adult hood, as the chick grew the beak got worse and eventually they couldn't eat anymore. Just something to keep in mind, but as I said, as long as they can eat I leave them to live and try to make it easier on them, as it sounds like you are doing! You could also put extra vitamins and supplements in the water to account for anything she may not be eating. Good luck with your chick, hope this helps a little! Oh and Welcome To BYC!

THANKS, this is my usual approach to disabled chics; make it as easy as possible for them for as long as you can and when quality of life is gone, let them go. I never had a scissor beak before and I was thinking I could clip it into the right grow pattern. She is a really cool looking Houdan.

! Great to have you aboard! Sounds like your chick is holding her own! Good luck to you!

I have heard that it is possible to clip it into shape, I could never do that as it was always to sever on mine.

I've seen quite a few posts on chickens with the same beak issue.. definitely use the search on the top of the page!
