Hi All

My chicks are near about 3 weeks old and they already are tasting flight and gliding. They can jump off the brooder that i made them. So I came across an article on how to clip and trim wings to prevent flight. I exactly did what was told however my chick can still use its wings to fly out from brooder and can glide. What am I doing wrong? Please Help.

Regards
Sunny

Did you clip the flight feathers of both wings? Clipping a chicken's flight feathers is only affective when only one wing is clipped.

Just put a top on the brooder and be glad you have such nice healthy active chicks!!
You must be a good chick mama!!

you may laugh at this, but i clipped 1 wing first and they could still fly. I clipped both wings off the second guy and he can fly too. They look very ugly with no wings and i think its cruel to clip wings ( even if they feel no pain) . I have made a decision I wont be clipping wings in future. Getting a top is so much easier but it may kill the freedom :(.
