I was wondering if anyone would know why our baby chicks seem to be great one day , and will be dead the next.. They are all in the same area in the broder box , but none are acting sick , these babies are anywhere between 3 weeks and 2 months or so ,and we have lost a total of about 5 in the last few weeks.. I know this dont sound like a bunch or a real emergency , but we have never had one that just dies at this age , usually our loss is when they are first born. Should we be giving them some kind of grit , or meds in the water , like I said , the others that are living are all acting fine , the ones who passed were fine that morning too , not acting funny or sick in the least bit.. Please help..Thanks again

I honestly don't know the answer since I am VERY new at this - but there was someone else on here a few days ago who had a problem similar, and it was due to the teflon or sommething else she was cooking with giving off a toxic gas to the chicks. They were being kept in the kitchen, and were dying one by one. Don't know if it's related, bit it's a start.

Yup we use the same chick start that is medicated that we have always used.. We clean it out after every new hatch , AND once a week ... We started them on chick grit after the death of the first ones , because this older man said that is what they needed..

The chicks are outside in the broder , not in the kitchen where they would have problems with teflon , but I did find that to be interesting..

Thanks for the quick replies..
