Baby Chicks

I'm raising Baby Chicks. I'm cleaning out my spice cupboard of old spices. I wonder if there are any that would be harmful to add to their bedding? Thinking of Bay leaves and thyme specifically. Possibly also cardamon.

Even if not harmful, why would you add spices to their bedding? I like to add spices to chickens I'm eating just before they go in the oven or the frying pan.
