Ok I’m at a stand point out of the 4 years of having chickens I have just now started having issues. I get my chicks from tcs and I get a few chickens that don’t make it from them not eating or drinking so I try n give them feed n water mix thinking it would be easier for them but I always somehow to manage to get water or something in their lungs. I put vitamins in their water and mix oregano into their feed and I have a couple who just won’t make it. I get prepacements and then the same thing happens to a few of them. I put some corid into their water and I I’ve just tried everything n nothing seems to be working. She gasps for air, jumps around but can’t ever stand up bc she don’t have strength.. and then they will drag themselves away from the other chickens and will hide I’m not sure what to do. Please help me becuase I’m not sure what to do!

Hi!

Sorry about your problems. First off, no chicks should be aspirating water. We use a small pyrex bowl with a huge marble in it for the first few days. Many just use a regular chicken waterer and put marbles in it for a few days. When two days old, we put in a verticle nipple bottle and that's all they get until converting to the horizontal nipples. Maybe try bottled water in case there's something in yours. That's doubtful, but at this point, I'd try it.

If under a week old, they should be at 90-95F heat, then down 5 degrees each week. This probably has nothing to do with it, as you'd already know this, but I'm throwing it out there as perhaps they're chilled.

Also, just checking that your bedding isn't cedar. I'm thinking there may be something else going on in their environment that's causing issues. Make sure they aren't close to anything with perfumes or scents of any kind.

Corid won't hurt them, but if you're doing that, you shouldn't be giving any vitamins at the same time, just their feed and Corid water for the full 5 or 7 days, whichever dosage you're using. Follow that up with Poultry Cell or some other vitamin water so they get their vitamins built back up. I'd go every other day for a week, and that should help a lot.
