I have 2- 12 week pullets and 1- 2 week old duck. The chickens have been getting "Start n' Grow" feed. I keep it away from the duck. The pet store sold me some unknown feed for the duck and said not give it the "medicated" chicken feed. My question is, are my pullets old enough to have layer feed and chicken scratch? My chickens roam around my backyard from 6:00 am to 8:00 p.m. The duck runs around with the chickens. Would it be OK for the duck to eat the layer feed and chicken scratch? I also mix blue-health grit in the Start n' Grow. I don't know if the duck can have the grit or if I should or should not mix it with the feed. I don't know if the duck is male or female.

The chickens don't need layer food until they begin to lay around 24 weeks. Prior to layer, you can feed starter - grower feed. As far as grit is concerned, your chickens will get all they need from the soil as they peck around while out during the day.

I cannot comment of medicated feed as I don't use it.

I figure that ducks are very similar to chickens, so the food is probably not too different. They would get grit in the same manner.
