I have a question about some baby runners I have. When is it ok to introduce them to their outside pen ? They grow so fast like they eat miracle grow. I live in southern Georgia we have been having some night temps in the 20's but not very often.
My brooder pen is outgrowing them quickly.
Thanks
Leslie

You should wait until they are about 5 or 6 weeks old. Then you should have a small shelter for them with a light bulb in it for warmth, just in case they feel the need to warm up a little. They are more cold hardy than chicks of the same age. Just keep them dry and make sure they have a heat source and they should be o.k.

I like to keep things as close to natural as possible but here in Australia the temps arent so cold.
My ducklings have mumma to show them the way.
2 days after they hatch she takes them for a walk to the pond and they lie on the hay in the sun to dry off.
But she has oils to coat them with too, though she only coats them for about 2 weeks then leaves them to keep themselves warm.
Just watch them and provide the warm light, im sure theyd love to go for a run.
If you click on my website link, theres a pic of them outside with mum!!!

I put mine in an outside pen when they were about 2 weeks old. They are very dirty little ducks. They had a bed and a heat lamp. They did great outside.
