A lot of the water is probably being spilled out try getting them a small container they can swim in and the waterer so they drink in one and wet their beaks and stuff in the swim container that helped a lot with mine... it's also not a whole lot of mess because duck feathers are mostly water proof so they dry quickly

Have you check out the sticky about how to care for ducklings? There are a few options for ducklings. I like the cool whip container with a hole in the lid.
